Rustic Stars

With Halloween behind us and November beginning, it's time to start making Christmas decor!!

Mother Nature got a jump on winter this year and it snowed here the other night.  I know, snow!!  Don't believe me?  Check out the pic!!!

Hey, yes, it's grainy.  It's like looking at the Lock-Ness Monster or Big Foot or something.  It's showing you something you don't really want to believe was ever actually there!

Once the storm cleared out of the atmosphere, the stars in the heavens seemed to pop out of the black velvet (yes, I was up really late - or was it early - after the storm.  Kids you know!).  Living in the country, with no street lights or security lights in sight, the stars always seem to shine just a little bit brighter and seem just a little bit closer.  When that happens it's so much easier to believe that God truly is near!!

With Christmas projects already in the making for my new commission store "Little Treasures" this little decor project is quick and adorable.  With a cute, rustic twine added to the top for a finishing flair.

I've seen similar stars sell in the local boutiques for a pretty penny (oh wait, there are no pennies in Canada anymore.  Ok, a "pretty toonie"?  That just doesn't sound right . . . ).  Well, anyway, why not make your own for less money?  And if you want to sell the items?  Please see the terms of pattern use at the bottom of the post!!  THANKS!

Ready for this ridiculously complicated pattern?  Just kidding, this pattern is so simple (and I made so many for commission at "Little Treasures Kids Store" - 12 packs of 3 to be precise!!  Insanity!) that I eventually stopped paying attention as I crocheted and began watching television . . . the black and white morality of the Bishop's Wife anyone?

Here is my version of a lovely Christmas Star - just add a rustic old twine piece, a pretty ribbon, a cute children's sticker or a button for your own personal touch!

On to the pattern!!

Rnd 1:  Ch 4.  Join with a slip stitch to form ring

Rnd 2:   Ch6 (forms first DC and first ch 3).  *(working in the loop created in rnd 1) 3DC.  Ch3.  Rep from star three more times.  2 DC. Join with a slip stitch into the 3rd chain of the starting chain 6.

Rnd 3 - Slip stitch into first ch 3 space.  ch 3.  (In the same ch 3 space as slip stitch 2DC.  Ch 3.  3DC.)  sc in the top of the second DC from rnd 2.  *(in next ch space  3DC.  Ch 3.  3DC)  sc in top of 2nd dc from rnd 2. rep from star three more times.  Join with a slip stitch to starting ch 3.

Bind off and weave in ends.

Starch the stars as desired.  Personally, I don't like to starch because I find that it leaves the fabric too stiff and slightly sticky.

I found that making the stars with Impeccable yarn and the smaller hook than called for on the ball band made the stars stiff enough on their own

Add a piece of twine or ribbon or yarn to create a hanger.  Add buttons or beads as desired.
