. . . read to the end to discover a Red Mitten Designs One Year Anniversary Celebration surprise!

Red Mitten Designs is one year old today!  Can you believe it?!!!

A year of Red Mitten Designs blogging wouldn't be possible without you, the reader.  Thank you!!  I have loved reading your comments and seeing your beautiful finished projects! 😄

To celebrate the one year anniversary, here is a round up of the blogs top six all time favourite FREE knitting and crochet patterns!!

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Red Mitten Designs originally came to life as "a blog about knitting" so let's start with the knitting round up!

1. Winter Snowballs: Christmas Decor

The Winter Snowball!  One of my favourite patterns, and one of the first patterns I shared for free here on the blog.  It is the most popular / most viewed free pattern on the site!

I originally added a disclaimer to the pattern that read:  "Please do keep in mind that they are designed as decorations and not toys"

Despite my disclaimer, my own children tend to use these in the traditional manner of a snowball!  Proceed with discretion . . . and please don't send my any repair bills :)

2.  Orange Blaze Hunting Toque

The orange blaze hunting toque (also pictured above as the intro photo), has been a popular post on the blog.

This pattern is great for hunting season or the hunting enthusiast in your life (p.s. hunting season is in full swing here in southern Ontario . . . just saying 😉)

With Christmas on the near horizon (at least it feels that way for us handcrafters!) it makes a quick, fun gift!  It can be adjusted for height and is super stretchy in both directions, making it ideal for an unknown head size!

3.  Bee Sweet Washcloth

The Bee Sweet Washcloth pattern makes an adorable little baby shower gift, especially when combined with a couple adorable little ducklings and a Bandanna Dribble Bib!

You'd never know it, but this photograph was taken in the rain beside a small provincial park river.  It was actually tons of fun to do the photo's for this pattern because the park was empty and so, so quiet!!

The ducklings can be created using Karla Frich's "Lil Ducks" pattern that can be found HERE

The Bandanna Dribble Bib pattern is available for purchase through Ravelry or Craftsy

Moving on to the Crochet!  Eventually the blogs catch phrase went from "a blog about knitting" to "a blog about knitting . . . and occasionally crochet!"  Here is the round up of the top 3 crochet patterns!!

1.  HBC Inspired Blanket

The Hudson's Bay Company is an iconic part of Canadian History.  The "vintage" colours are recognizable the world over.  I opted to complete the blanket in the Millenial Grey Scale colours as it fit into the colour scheme for my Little Bears room.

The blanket would look gorgeous in the vintage colours as well!  I would suggest Bernat Premium aran, denim heather, gold, red and evergreen.

The HBC Inspired blanket is super simple to make as it is completed using only one stitch.  Due to this, it would be great for the beginner crocheter to master a basic crochet stitch.

It's also perfect for the more experienced crocheter who is looking for a back-to-basics, straightforward pattern that will produce a beautiful finished object

2.  Simple Pumpkin

The Simple Pumpkin pattern is more of a "how-to" for creating a pumpkin of any size.

With Halloween less then two weeks away this pattern would make quick and simple decorations to sit out before the trick-or-treaters start arriving at the door.

I have made pumpkins using Bernat Premium and Vanna's choice and both have produced beautiful sets of pumpkins.  If you make the pumpkins with a different yarn (or even the suggested yarn 😊)  I would love to see them!!

The "faux" Paracord Bracelet makes a great accessory for any wordrobe.

No, it wont be able to save you in an emergency like the real deal, but it looks cute!  Form over function anyone?

This pattern would make a cute stocking stuffer for almost anyone on your Christmas or gift giving list!

Eventually the blog acquired its current catchphrase of "a blog about knitting, crochet . . . and other fiber arts" due to the fact that I also enjoy Tunisian Crochet, embroidery and sewing.  Post's about those arts will show up on the blog from time-to-time!

I hope you were able to find a pattern that peaked your interest or inspired you to create.  If this list of Red Mitten Designs patterns hasn't given you an idea for your next project, why not check out the great selection of patterns on allfreecrochet.com or allfreeknitting.com?  New, free patterns are featured on the "allfree" sites "all" the time!
